Gerhard "Gery" Williams is Executive Vice President, Chief Operations Officer, serving in this role since July 2022. Gery leads an organization focused on safely and reliably delivering Amtrak services to customers, operating and maintaining the company's core railroad assets - including infrastructure and rail car and locomotive fleets, and driving process improvement and efficiencies across the Amtrak network.

The Operations function consists of six areas:

• Customer Service Stations, Onboard Services and Food & Beverage.
• Infrastructure Maintenance & Construction Services (IMCS), charged with building and maintaining railroad assets including track and electrification systems.
• Mechanical, overseeing rolling stock management and advancing trainset maintenance operational efficiencies.
• Network Operations, a central monitoring center managing daily operations and coordinating responses.
• Operations Excellence and Enablement, focused on addressing recurring issues and developing and deploying modern new tools, technology and processes.
• Transportation, the primary leader for in-field operations, directly managing and leading train and terminal operations.

Gery had previously served as Senior Vice President, Operations, since January 2022 and was responsible for the IMCS group. He also led day-to-day core service delivery, driving continuous improvement in safety, customer service and productivity. 

Prior to joining Amtrak in June 2017 as Vice President and Chief Engineer, Gery had spent almost three decades at CSX Transportation in a wide range of senior leadership roles. His final position was VP, Mechanical Operations, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and directing a team of 3,800 employees responsible for the maintenance and repair of a combined fleet of 70,000 locomotives and rail cars. Early in his profession, Gery held roles including trainmaster, manager of safety and terminal manager.

Across his railroad career, Gery has consistently shown collaborative and data-driven leadership and an ability to safely and efficiently manage complex transportation, mechanical and engineering challenges.

Gery se graduó de la Drexel University con un título de Licenciado en Ciencias con especialización en Comercio e Ingeniería. He also holds a Master of Business Administration with a specialization in Marketing from the Peter F. Drucker Graduate School of Management at Claremont Graduate University.
